Season two of The Conners is set to see the return of a Roseanne character who hasn't been seen in a very long time.

TV Line reports that later episodes in season two will see the introduction of Dan's now-adult half-brother Ed, who was affectionately known as 'Little Ed'.

Ed was the late-in-life child that Dan's father Ed Sr had with his second wife Crystal. The couple also had a daughter together named Angela.

When Ed appears in The Conners, he'll be a 21-year-old college graduate who'll be harbouring some resentment towards his older brother for not helping care for their father.

TV Line adds that the part has not yet been cast but it will be a recurring role.

Season two of the Roseanne spin-off has already seen the return of Katey Sagal as Dan's school friend Louise, who wants to pursue a romantic relationship with him.

The Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki has also teased he'll be returning in the role of David this season.

On Instagram, the actor wrote: "I may be putting the (literal/figurative) pants of #davidhealy back on for one or two more stories on @theconnersabc this year.

"Twenty some years later I'm still in awe of this freakass carnie group who adopted me early on and still learn so very much from them whenever in their presence. @thesaragilbert #lauriemetcalf."

The Conners airs on ABC in the US.
