Connor Barron best on the pitch in Aberdeen vs Celtic as free transfer 'no-brainer' for Hoops or Rangers

Andy Halliday reckons Connor Barron was the BEST player on the pitch in Saturday's Scottish Cup clash against Celtic - and proved his credentials for a big move to one side of the Old Firm.

The midfielder, 21, is out of contract in the summer and already has a number of clubs sniffing around including sides in the English Premier League as well as abroad in Serie A. Both the Hoops and Gers have been linked with the dynamo before and Halliday believes he's proven himself against the big two, so much so that it's a "no-brainer" for either to snap him up when his deal expires.

"Personally I thought Connor Barron was the best player on the pitch on Saturday, to be honest," the Motherwell man said on punditry duties for Clyde Superscoreboard. "And he's out of contract in the summer! I'm not trying to prise him away from Aberdeen but I always feel they are the no-brainers that Celtic and Rangers should be looking for, especially when they're trying to get homegrown talent for their European squads. I thought he was excellent.

"I've heard a few links down south as well but I just think they're no-brainers for Rangers and Celtic.

"It doesn't seem like there's been much chat there."
