Connor Barron 'considered' for Scotland Euro 2024 squad as Steve Clarke weighs up shock wildcard picks

There could be a shock Scotland call up for Connor Barron.

Steve Clarke names his 26-man squad for Euro 2024 next Wednesday and the Aberdeen youngster is being considered as a wildcard pick for Germany after impressing during what has been a dismal Dons campaign. The Scottish Sun claims that Barron is in with a chance of being on the plane, with Clarke;s assistant John Carver at Easter Road to watch Barron last Sunday as Peter Leven's men routed sorry Hibs 4-0 to bring an end to Nick Montgomery's reign.

Despite making just three appearances for Scot Gemmill's Under 21s, Barron could now be fast-tracked into the first team. The 21-year-old is out of contract at Pittodrie in a few weeks and is set to move on to a new club. Record Sport revealed that Bologna are one of several Serie A clubs chasing Barron. And he could be in for a busy summer if he makes the cut for the Euros.

There's guarantee he will be picked however. Ben Doak is another young gun in with a shot after returning to fitness for Liverpool. despite his lack of football, the wide man's ability is thought to offer something different which is why his hopes are not completely dead yet.
