Connor Goldson has issued a "big blow" to Rangers as he is ruled out for the season following a painful knee injury.

The defender, 31, won't return to the pitch until pre-season. It comes after he suffered an injury to his knee during a training session on Wednesday which means he will now miss the end of season run as the Light Blues bid to win a domestic Treble.

The ever-present stopper - who had been left out in recent matches for Leon Balogun - will now watch on from the sides as the Ibrox men bid to beat Celtic to league and Scottish Cup glory, the Daily Record reports.

Philippe Clement admits the news comes as a huge blow to his side with one of his leaders now absent. However, he will still play a key role after asking the Belgian to be part of the dressing room to support his teammates and help get them over the line. Ridvan Yilmaz and Ryan Jack have also been injured but the in positive news, the Turkish full-back could be ready for a return to the squad to face Kilmarnock but midfielder Jack will still need further time to get over his current issue.

Clement told the media: "Wednesday in training, Connor (Goldson) hurt his knee bad, he will be out for the rest of the season after a scan. It is a big blow, he has played 48 games this season, one of the leaders. He said to me, he wanted to be in the dressing room to support the boys.

"Ridvan and Jack have partly trained with the team. Ridvan is a maybe for Sunday. Jack not yet for Sunday will need more time. Connor (Goldson) will be back for pre-season. Cortes and Danilo will not return before the end of the season. Hopefully we see Sima and Matondo back before the end of the season if the recovery continues."
