Conor Gallagher could yet renew his contract at Chelsea despite Aston Villa and a number of other clubs tracking the £50m-rated midfielder.

The 24-year-old has entered a precarious time in his career, because as of Monday he entered his final year currently under contract at boyhood club Chelsea. Previous reports suggested the Blues would be willing cash in if failure to come to an accord over wages persists, whilst it was by the Villa target's own admission he is in no rush over the matter.

"I’ve just been focusing on England and this is the most important thing right now, for me and the country," he said on the eve of Euro 2024. "I am a Chelsea player right now and now I am just thinking about England and the tournament."

He and a number of the England squad have been linked to transfer activity whilst on duty in Germany - Gallagher in particular having a number of named suitors should his club push him towards the exit door before September.

Now in the latest update regarding his future, The Athletic claim that getting the midfielder to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge has not yet been ruled out. Whether this means the club giving into greater demands or the player's side lowering theirs is not specified.

Along with Unai Emery and Villa, other suitors named over the past months have been Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid. Chelsea were said to be asking for £50m in order to maximise their pure profit from any deal.

The West London club are also said to still be in the market for a striker, following talks over Jhon Duran's £40m transfer from Villa Park going cold, whilst Carney Chukwuemeka may find himself on the move only two years after leaving the West Midlands for Chelsea.
