Conservative strongholds Congleton and Macclesfield turn red on bleak night for Tories

Two Tory strongholds in Cheshire have turned red on a disastrous night for the Conservative Party, both locally and nationally.

Congleton and Macclesfield, both renowned for voting Tory over the years, were snatched by Labour as they swept to victory in the 2024 General Election. Crewe and Nantwich was also won by Labour having previously been under Conservative command.

There was some good news for Tories though as Ester McVey narrowly held on to Tatton for the party's only victory in the county. Here is the breakdown of the Cheshire East results:
