Convoy of caravans pull into popular family park ahead of May Day Bank Holiday

A convoy of caravans have pulled into a popular family park. It is believed the vehicles parked up in Summerfield Park in Winson Green on Wednesday and were still there on Thursday morning.

The park has large grassed areas, multiple playing courts and a walking circuit popular with joggers and dog walkers. The site is also used for different events and is close to the Harborne Walkway.

When asked if eviction proceedings to remove the encampment were underway, Birmingham City Council replied they would 'recover land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it.'

A council spokesperson said: "Birmingham City Council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover this land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it.

“The council has useable transit sites and plots for use by the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community – which is in line with Government policy – and details of the Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment carried out and updated in 2019 can be found on our website."
