Police raced to a popular East Kilbride beauty spot yesterday after a man was seen with what appeared to be a 'gun'.

A man was reportedly in possession of a firearm within Calderglen Country Park on Sunday, May 5.

The alarm was raised shortly after 5pm and officers were seen searching the busy public park.

Eye-witnesses posted on social media claiming a number of police units and a helicopter were spotted in the area.

A 45-year-old man was traced and handed a fine by cops. Police today confirmed that a BB gun was recovered in the search.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.10pm on Sunday, May 5, we received a report of a man seen in possession of what appeared to be a firearm in Calderglen Country Park, East Kilbride.

"Officers attended and searched the area. A 45-year-old man was traced and spoken to. He was issued with a fixed penalty notice.

“A BB gun was recovered."
