Cornell Protesters Celebrate After Ceasefire Divestment Referendum

Celebrations erupted at New York’s Cornell University campus on April 23, after a majority of students voted to support a ceasefire in Gaza and divestment from major weapons manufacturers.

According to the referendum results, 5,043 votes were cast in support of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and 2,074 votes were cast in opposition.

The referendum comes amid rising tensions over the war in Gaza in college campuses across the United States. More than 100 people were arrested at demonstrations at Columbia University, and similar protests have rocked MIT, New York University, the University of Michigan, and Yale.
