Pedn Vounder is one of Cornwall's most beautiful beaches and was recently dubbed the 'Bali of the UK' after being featured in the TikTok Hidden Gems trend. "Its natural beauty and secluded charm enchant everyone who visits," remarked the travel enthusiasts.

But some fear that Cornish beaches are becoming over-publicised. Residents and readers have been giving their views on the Cornwall Live Facebook page, and some went so far as to say that our coastal beauty spots are not as good as people make out.

David Penrose Barneby wrote: “Cornish beaches are being overpublicised, the look often exceeds the reality." Read on to see what CornwallLive readers think of Cornish beaches and their increasing popularity.

David continued: "Pedn Vounder is no better than many other beaches. It has a very steep climb down and up, the high tide comes up to the cliffs, it used to be popular with locals as not known about or frequented by strangers on holiday.”

Lorraine Bee agrees: “Thanks to over-publicising on social media etc the road leading to Porthcurno becomes gridlocked with cars parked all up the road.”

Michael Cobley advises: “As for it being busy in summer I wouldn't bother going on weekends unless you're down there for sunrise. Get out of bed earlier and all your problems are solved. Be just you and possibly a couple of naked old blokes!”

Jayne Haydon points out: “Trouble is OK telling everyone about this beach but the last bit of the climb down is hard and getting up is even worse! It's also a nudist beach! Far more lovely accessible family beaches around.”

Jason Broadbent agrees: “Not nearly as good as beautiful Wherrytown though. People really should check that out instead. Much easier access too.”

Sean Kelly thinks: “Bali beaches are not that impressive, no comparison.” David Brown agrees: “Same with Caribbean beaches. Nothing like as good as Cornwall. Bondi Beach, Copacabana, Ipanema, Waikiki. Been to all and more. Cornish beaches beat the lot.”

Jim Snow wasn’t impressed either: “I've been to Bali twice. The beaches, except for Nusa Dua and parts of Senore are filthy.”

Zoe Napierska says: “People should check out the beaches of the far North West of Scotland, just as stunning if not more so.”

Debbie Eaton replies: “I agree, sadly the weather probably not as good, but far less crowded.”

Eddie Manning prefers Cornwall too: “Been to Bali, 80 per cent of it is not in Porthcurno’s Pedn Vounder’s league for scenery except the southwest tip of the island.” Sean Kelly agrees: “Been to a few of them too, Cornish beaches are definitely world-class.”
