Cornish vineyard's unique wine tasting with a sustainable twist

A family-run vineyard in Newquay will host an evening of wine tasting this summer - but with a Cornish sustainable twist.

The Atlantic Vineyard in Cornwall's event, in collaboration with Griffin Newquay, will take place on July 11.

It offers a laid-back introduction to wine tasting and a presentation about Cornish winemaking and their own eco-friendly approaches to it.

The vineyard has embarked on a ground-breaking project to produce Earth-Friendly Wines™ from a variety of grape perfected for the Cornish climate by 2025.

This is already several years in the making and, illustrating anticipation for the first locally-grown wines, Griffin Newquay is hosting the tasting event featuring Earth-Friendly wines™.

Cornwall's environment suits Earth-Friendly vines™, contributing to what is known as 'cool climate viticulture'.

These vine types have natural disease resistance, negating the need for chemical sprays, and they can be left to ripen later into the year.

It's apparent that traditional wine-making grapes like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, or Sauvignon Blanc, ideal in warmer and drier climates, would not thrive in Cornwall's conditions.

Thus, The Atlantic Vineyard decided to opt for eco-friendly alternatives fit for the region.

The unique occasion also aims to support the local environment.

A pound from each ticket sold will be donated to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, a charity dedicated to safeguarding Cornwall's flora and fauna.
