Cornwall is set to lose more banks as Lloyds has announced it will be closing two more branches in the county next year. It comes among an influx of bank closures on high streets across the country in recent years.

Lloyds Bank has said it will be closing its branches in Wadebridge and Liskeard on February 17, 2025, and February 25, 2025, respectively. It means Cornwall will have lost around 30 banks in just over two years.

The bank said the decision was made due to the declining number of customers at both branches. In Wadebridge, Lloyds said 722 customers regularly used the branch in four months out of the six months ending February 2024. Meanwhile, in Liskeard, the number of regular customers at the branch during the same period stood at 827.

It added that 79 per cent of customers in Wadebridge also used other Lloyds Bank branches, internet banking or called the bank, in the six month period ending February 2024. In Liskeard, 76 per cent of customers used other methods of banking during the same period.

Following the closures, the nearest branches for customers in Wadebridge will be on High Street in St Austell or Boscawen Street in Truro. Customers in Liskeard will only be able to use the branches in Launceston or on Royal Parade in Plymouth.

Cornwall has already lost five banks in 2024: The Halifax on Market Jew Street, Penzance, which shut in February; and Lloyds on Fore Street, Saltash, Barclays on Molesworth Street, Wadebridge, and the Halifax and Lloyds on Fore Street, Bodmin. It is also set to lose Lloyds on Chester Road, Newquay, in December.
