Coronation concert viewers call Lionel Richie ‘unrecognisable’ as he performs hits

Iconic pop star left viewers confused by his appearance on stage at the King’s Coronation concert.

Viewers of King Charles III Coronation were left confused after iconic singer Lionel Richie appeared on stage.

The popular singer performed two of his greatest hits as part of the diverse show which aired on Sunday night.

However, some fans were distracted from the show at hand when they saw Richie, 72, sat at his piano onstage for a rendition of his track Easy.

Viewers felt that the ageing pop star looked facially different to what they are used to and aired their concerns for him on Twitter.

One wrote: “Lionel Richie looks unrecognisable what’s happened to his face?Has he had work done? Looks so tight.”

Another added: “Loving Lionel but his face, what on earth? Surprised he can sing at all it looks painful.”

A third asked: “Crikey what's gone on with Lionel Richie and his face? Weirdly fascinating.”

A fourth social media user noted: “Quite surprised Lionel Richie can move his face enough to sing. Why do people do this to themselves?”

A fifth said: “ Lionel Richie's face is stopping him from singing properly.”

Richie treated attendees of the 20,000 strong crowd at Windsor Castle to a second of his most recognisable tracks when he got on his feet and performed All Night Long.

The performance saw him as the first performer at the show to deliver more than once song to the crowd, with Pete Tong, Olly Murs and Nicole Scherzinger all delivering just one track to the disappointment of viewers at home.

The event in the grounds of Windsor Castle also saw special appearances from Top Gun star Tom Cruise and The Muppets Miss Piggy and Kermit The Frog, as well as a special reenactment of a scene from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet prior to Richie taking to the stage.

King Charles III, Queen Camilla, The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte were all in attendance at the concert, however fans were disappointed to see Prince Louis did not attend.
