Coronation Street has been flooded with messages of praise following its latest episode with some hailing it as the 'best episode in a long time'. The ITV soap aired intense, and what some describe as 'disturbing', scenes as the truth about Lauren Bolton's disappearance was uncovered.

The teen had been missing for months having suddenly disappeared in February after being sacked from her job at Roys Rolls before later being shocked by a mystery visitor at her door. But it was revealed in May that Joel was Lauren's 'secret boyfriend' after Hope Stape found the fancy necklace he gifted her in his car.

But then, a flashback clip revealed him to be Lauren's secret 'boyfriend' and saw him brutally attack her with a chair leg. It meant viewers have continued to wait to find out if Lauren made it out alive and during Monday's (July 8) Corrie, her return was sealed as she visited a sick Roy Cropper in hospital.

However, in Tuesday night's (July 9) Corrie, as she tried to make an exit from the hospital, she was grabbed by Joel who covered her mouth to cover her screams and dragged her into a family room where the truth about what happened between the pair before the shock attack was uncovered.

Flashbacks scattered throughout the episode unveiled the truth about Lauren's absence and her involvement with Joel. The wicked solicitor insinuated himself into Lauren's life, which started after he represented her at the police station. He described himself as her 'knight in shining armour' and it wasn't long before he stepped in to assist with her bills, eventually manipulating her into a sexual relationship.

On the day she vanished, Joel lashed out violently at Lauren following a mention of his current fiancée, Dee-Dee Bailey. Joel took off, while Lauren feigned death and has since been in hiding, jumping from hostel to hostel, terrified for her safety. But the biggest twist was that the teen is now pregnant with Joel's baby before she was left having to do another runner from the evil solicitor.

Absolutely stunning acting." @sachin290702 praised: "Extraordinary episode Corrie. That ending was especially 'edge of your seat' drama. The performances were amazing."

@tracy.c70 wrote: "This episode was so so much Better than i could have imagined, the ending where she got away was on the edge of the seat, i honestly thought that he was going to catch up with her, can’t wait to see the next episode, absolutely amazing acting from both Callum and Cait." @tracyday325 shared: "One of the best episodes of Corrie. Absolutely brilliant acting from them both. Well done to all involved."

@NoniFlax101 commented: "Brilliant episode of #Corrie tonight but so disturbing to see the toxic + abusive relationship between Joel + Lauren both in the present + in the flashbacks. And Lauren's pregnant - didn't see that twist coming. Phenomenal performances from @CalumLill and @CaitFitton." But @Yorvik187 added: "I'm surprised this is being shown before 9 pm. The subject matter is dark and disturbing and not in keeping with an early evening soap opera.#corrie."
