Coronation Street fans outraged over 'worst storyline yet' as Toyah faces pregnancy shock

Toyah Battersby, played by Georgia Taylor, has certainly been through the wringer lately.

Earlier in the year, viewers learned that Toyah had a baby at 19 following a rape incident in the early 2000s. Tragically, the baby, named Rose, was stillborn, and Toyah buried her on the red rec.

In the midst of this turmoil, Toyah has found herself in the crosshairs of the menacing Rowan Cunliffe, the head of a cult that her sister Leanne (portrayed by Jane Danson) got mixed up with.

After being legally pursued by him, and dealing with the emotional fallout from her baby revelation, Toyah ended up having a tryst with Leanne's partner Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) on the day of Rose's funeral, reports the Express.

True to soap opera drama, Rowan had an associate snap incriminating photos of Nick and Toyah together - which he's now using for a blackmail scheme.

Yet, in a recent episode, Toyah was taken to hospital in severe pain, where Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) discovered her in distress. At the hospital, she received shocking news: she's pregnant, leaving her, and viewers, astounded given her recent liaison with Nick.

But the plot twist hasn't gone down well with the Corrie audience. On a fan forum dedicated to the show, viewers expressed their displeasure with how the story is unfolding.

"Can't see a way back from this, 3 characters trashed to create another mature mother. Where do all 3 characters go from this, I'm surprised any of them are happy doing this cr*p," vented one viewer.

Another chimed in: "Another new and terrifying low reached. Worst storyline the soap has ever produced. Tasteless, short-term sensationalism designed to drive a wedge through one of the most enduring (and watchable) sibling relationships on the show. Awful."

A third declared: "I've switched off the twaddle it's not for me. Worst storyline they have done by far."

Meanwhile, another commented: "History is just rewritten at a whim these days. Surely Georgia Taylor can't be happy with this material?"

The same person continued: "Firstly, they invent a dead baby that Toyah conceived through her rape, then she sleeps with her sister's partner and miraculously falls pregnant with his baby despite her well-documented fertility issues in the past?

"What an absolute mess. I won't be returning to the show any time soon, as it's Corrie in name only these days."

Over on X, previously known as Twitter, another individual remarked: "Genuinely the worst thing Corrie has ever done. I think it's time to pull the plug."

An additional disgruntled fan wrote: "I stopped watching it yesterday after 5 mins. Rubbish boring plot lines. Didn't watch tonight's episode at all."
