Coronation Street fans were left in shock on Wednesday night when David Platt swore before the watershed.

The character - played by Jack P. Shepherd - blew his top in the show’s latest episode, which began at 7.30pm, while he was locked in the basement of his brother Nick Tilsley’s (Ben Price) bistro.

Letting it all out about evil Clayton Hibbs - who killed his wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane), David screamed: “Let me out of here so I can kill the b*****d!”

In fact, his family had locked him in there in the first place so that he wouldn’t do just that and murder Clayton (Callum Harrison).

A number of fans took to Twitter to convey their surprise that David did dare utter a swear word before the clock struck nine.

Another tweeted: “Did David platt swear before watershed (sic)”

One shared: “did I just hear David Platt use a swear word on #corrie? (sic)”

The episode came to an end with David telling his mum Gail Platt (Helen Worth) through the locked door that suicide could be the only way out for him after suffering the devastation of losing Kylie.

After making the chilling comments, he stopped talking, leaving Gail to fear the worst.

The ep finished before Gail could find out whether David is still with us or not.

Coronation Street airs on Friday October 21 at 7.30pm.
