Coronation Street first look at Paul and Billy's wedding

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Paul Foreman and Billy Mayhew tie the knot in an emotional ceremony next week.

The couple exchange their wedding vows at the Bistro, with family and friends gathered to celebrate their special day.

The episode, which airs on Monday, October 2, opens with Paul's twin sister Gemma and mum Bernie both helping him to prepare for his wedding at Number 5.

Once the guests have taken their seats at the Bistro, Bernie and Gemma help Paul to walk down the aisle, where Billy is waiting for him.

The pair declare their love for each other and recite their vows, before the registrar pronounces them married.

After the ceremony is over, Billy is shocked to discover that Paul has been hiding something from him and the surprises of the day aren't over yet.

The wedding scenes provide some joy for Paul and Billy following the heartbreaking scenes exploring Paul's Motor Neurone Disease (MND) diagnosis in recent months.

Speaking about filming the episode, Peter Ash – who plays Paul – told Digital Spy and other media: "We've had so many scenes of things being just devastating, so sad and kind of hopeless, really.

"So the filming of the wedding was a breath of fresh air. It was so nice and a lovely day. There were great people who we were working with all day.

"We had a great time. It was great fun. It was a really nice change to do such a joyous occasion – to film such a joyous thing amidst all the sadness."

The couple have recently been dealing with the disappointment of not being able to get married in a church, which would have meant a lot to archdeacon Billy.

Peter added: "Paul knows Billy well enough to know that Billy is downplaying his upset about not being able to get married in a church.

"Shelly's death also brings out Paul's faith. At the funeral, he has a spiritual moment, really. Wanting to get married in a church has become a bit more of a priority now for Paul too.

"But he wants to do it mainly for Billy because he's devoted his life to the church. He knows that's where he wants to get married.

"So it's a bit disappointing that there can't be any religious music and all those rules that go around it. Billy's downplaying it, but Paul really is a bit upset that he can't have any of that at the wedding."
