Coronation Street icon 'to end The Institute' as return 'confirmed'

A Coronation Street legend is reportedly set to make a dramatic return and fans are convinced she's on a mission to dismantle the sinister Institute.

Earlier this year, viewers were introduced to the enigmatic self-improvement group known as The Institute. Led by the charismatic Rowan Cunliffe (Emhrys Cooper), the cult quickly ensnared Weatherfield resident Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).

Despite the concerns of her fiance Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and sister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor), Leanne was swiftly drawn into the Institute's web. She even introduced Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) to the group.

In recent episodes, Amy has been shown a promotional video for The Institute and appears to be thoroughly impressed. Spoilers for next week's episodes suggest that she will become deeply involved with the cult.

In Monday's episode (July 8), Toyah and Leanne attend a new recruits session at the Chariot Square Hotel. Leanne is thrilled to see Amy among the attendees, reports the Express.

However, fans believe that a familiar face is about to return to the cobbles with the intention of "bringing The Institute down" - none other than Tracy Barlow. As long-time viewers will remember, the soap icon, portrayed by Kate Ford, bid farewell to the show earlier this year.

Tracy Barlow's sudden departure with her new beau Tommy Orpington to Spain left Coronation Street fans in a bit of a lurch, but it seems she won't be away for too long. According to The Mirror, Tracy is set to make a brief return soon, only to come back more permanently later in the year.

Speculation is rife among Corrie enthusiasts that Tracy's comeback will be all about rescuing her daughter Amy from the clutches of a cult. A fan on a Corrie Reddit thread shared: " It has been confirmed that Kate Ford (Tracy) is to return to Weatherfield sometime next month."

They speculated: "My guess is she will be back not just to see Steve or her new boyfriend Tommy O, but her daughter Amy will be in a sticky situation as she gets involved with the Institute. Please god no! ".

Echoing this sentiment, another viewer said: "Hope Tracy ends the Institute." A third chimed in: "That's what I'm hoping for." Meanwhile, another suggested: "I think Ken or Steve will raise the alarm regarding Amy giving Deirdre money away and that's what brings Tracy back."
