Coronation Street legend eyes up EastEnders role

Ex-Coronation Street star Beverley Callard may soon be trading the cobbles for the square, as she's set her sights on a possible EastEnders role.

Callard played Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald between 1989 and 2020, when her character left Weatherfield to move to Spain.

But, according to her social media confessions, Callard may not be done being an onscreen publican just yet. That's because it sounds like she may be open to a move to Walford to pull a few pints at the Queen Vic.

Discussing a soap swap, one of Callard's Twitter/X fans suggested this week that she could appear on EastEnders as a member of the Slater or Carter clans. "Isn't it about time EastEnders introduced a Long lost Mitchell or Slater or Carter sister/aunt?!" they wrote.

Callard replied and she didn't shut down the possibility to join Corrie's rival soap. She responded "Loving this" with a heart and laughing emojis.

Meanwhile, another fan suggested the ex-Corrie star could play Kathy Cotton's never-before-seen sister Stephanie, with Callard replying by saying that would be "fab".

And that wasn't all. Another EastEnders lover commented that the actress would be perfect to portray a relative of Eve Unwin on the BBC soap, as they're both northern.

Technically speaking, if Callard did swap the Cobbles for the Square, it wouldn't be her first time appearing on EastEnders.

The actress actually made an appearance in Albert Square in 2010 for a Children in Need sketch. The skit was called East Street and saw some of the Corrie and EastEnders cast trading places in a crossover as they looked at twinning the boroughs of Walford and Weatherfield.

Sounds like the ball may be in the 'Enders court on this one...
