Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street is lining up a shocking storyline, with Daisy Midgeley set to be the target of a horrific acid attack.

Over the course of the past couple of weeks, Daisy has been the subject of a stalking campaign from Justin, but things will escalate in the near future.

As reported by The Mirror, Justin’s depravity will stoop to a new low as he throws acid at Daisy in The Rovers.

Bosses at the soap are reportedly keen to raise awareness on the subject matter, with the storyline being written in collaboration with several research partners.

Teresa Parker, head of media at Women’s Aid, said of the partnership: “Coronation Street are always very thorough in their research in violence against women storylines.

“We were happy to speak to the researchers. Storylines like this raise important awareness of issues like stalking and the danger it presents,” she concluded.

Daisy’s run-ins with Justin come as she’s preparing for her wedding to Daniel Osbourne, and boss Iain MacLeod recently teased the developments in the ongoing arc.

“My press officer wouldn't thank me for giving too much away at this point! But it's a soap wedding – when do they ever go smoothly, let's put it that way,” he explained.

“Obviously the story that's starting now, with Daisy experiencing this stalker, will continue all the way up to and including the wedding day. That will form part of the drama that will take place around the wedding.

“But I think Daniel and Daisy are for keeps. No spoilers, but even if the wedding doesn't go entirely according to plan, I do think long-term they're a couple that I'm really invested in,” he concluded.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
