Coronation Street releases goodbye message from Alex Bain after final episode

Coronation Street star Alex Bain has released a special goodbye message following his exit from the ITV soap.

The star departed the show tonight (June 3) after 16 years in the role of Simon Barlow, with the character leaving the cobbled streets to join his father, Peter, on a yacht.

Following the character’s exit, the official media channels for the soap released a video, with Bain paying tribute to fans of the soap as he bid farewell.

“Hi guys, I just want to say a quick message from me and my character Simon to all the fans of Coronation Street,” began Bain. “I just wanted to say that it’s been a fantastic experience - I’ve loved being here and I’ve loved being a part of the nation’s favourite street.

“And I just wanted to say a big old thank you to everybody who’s supported me over the years and to all the people I’ve worked with. It’s been an honour and I will always cherish my time here on Coronation Street. Take care everyone.”

The post received a warm response from fans, with one writing: “You were amazing. So talented, brought the character of Simon to life with some very tough story lines! Congrats on your work and hope the best is yet to come!”

“Farewell Alex my favourite character by far brought me back to memory lane saying farewell to the cobbles I remember when u first joined all the best in what you do next,” added another fan.

Bain recently reflected on his experience on the show, with the star recalling his first scene at the age of 6, saying: “My first word was ‘tired’. At that age you don't realise the enormity of what it means to be joining one of the longest-running shows in the world and be part of the family that were in the first episode in 1960.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
