Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has given a fresh insight into his 'unglamorous' recovery after going under the knife towards the end of last year. The actor revealed on social media that he was having surgery in November to fix an ACL injury.

The ACL is one of two ligaments that cross in the middle of the knee, connecting your thighbone to your shinbone and helping stabilize your knee joint. In the photo shared to his Instagram page, Alan could be seen giving a thumbs up for the camera.

At the time, Alan, who is famed for playing Tyrone Dobbs in the ITV soap, shared a picture of himself pre-surgery and said at the time: "ACL Reconstruction surgery [tick emoji]. Well, On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. I have been told the surgery went really well. I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I’m sure with the support of family & friends I’ll get there."

Months on and Alan is still going through rehab and he appeared to have had a break as he wrote alongside a picture of a sign for the clinic he was visiting: "Back at it today!! 1st session back... be gentle @scholarstherapies."

He then shared a video of him being put through his paces in a chair that sees one of his leg in a restraint while the other is expected to kick forward. "Be gentle I said..." Alan typed alongside the video before adding: "Rehab is not glamourous!!" alongside a crying laughing selfie sticker of himself.

It comes after Alan seemingly confirmed he was single again after years of dating former co-star Tisha Merry. He met Tisha, who played Steph Britton on the cobbles between 2013 to 2018, on set and they began dating shortly after she left the show. It was reported the pair had split and last month, Alan shared a humorous moment on Instagram which led him to make a dig at single life, and suggesting he might be using dating apps to find a new partner.

The 41-year-old actor shared the funny moment a playful dog attempted to mount him. He posted a picture of the dog, captioning it with a face-in-hand emoji: "Apparently we're not best friends. Most action I've had in a while ffs fml." He then shared another photo with the dog, suggesting it could be his "New Tinder profile picture", joking about a possible return to the dating scene.

Alan, who has played the Weatherfield mechanic in Corrie for two decades, does have a very important young woman in his life, his daughter Sianna-Rae who he shares with ex-wife, former Corrie and Hollyoaks star Lucy-Jo Hudson.

Taking to Instagram earlier this month, Alan shared a photo of the pair taken during their recent escapades in which they could be seen sporting oversized coats as they stood atop rocks and looked out to the sea surrounding them. Captioning the post, the soap star wrote in view of his fans and followers: "Whenever you need me, this is where I’ll be…. Right by your side!!"
