Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney has responded to co-star James Craven's exit.

James signed off of the ITV1 soap in emotional scenes on Friday night (June 16) where his character, Aaron Sandford, decided to move away from Weatherfield.

Aaron made that decision after he finally agreed to drop his libel case against Amy Barlow, who revealed in a blog post that she'd been raped by him a few months ago.

In their final showdown, Aaron began to acknowledge what he'd done and chose to walk away entirely from his life in Weatherfield to make a new start somewhere else.

Once Friday's episode had aired, Elle Mulvaney — who plays Amy — tweeted that she would miss sharing scenes with James.

"We are going to miss you so so much - anybody who knows James knows that he is absolutely nothing like his character & is one of the sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with," she wrote.

"He is always super professional & supportive, and me & him have really been a little team throughout the whole consent storyline. He is a brilliant actor but most importantly an amazing friend, and I am genuinely excited to see what he does next."

Craven also chatted a bit about Aaron's life-changing decision, explaining that he'd always hoped Aaron would "admit" what he'd done before moving away.

"I liked that there wasn't anything particularly overly dramatic about it," he said. "I think unfortunately that is quite realistic, because there are so many of these cases in real life where people don't face justice and people aren't prosecuted for it.

"So I think whilst that's obviously quite a hard thing to come to terms with for Amy, it is sadly quite realistic. I never wanted him to get away with it, but I think it's one of those things that he's now got to live with it, knowing what he's done."

Craven joined the soap last year as part of an issue-based storyline where Aaron was abused by his alcoholic father.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
