Coronation Street star Jack Carroll has been wished well as he was seen ditching the UK after a busy time on the cobbles. The actor and comedian joined the ITV soap earlier this year as Bobby, the nephew of Weatherfield favourite Carla Connor.

Bobby is the son of Carla’s brother Rob Donovan. Rob is serving life in prison for the murder of Tina McIntyre and was unaware he had a son until recently, but hadn’t managed to let Carla know.

But he's since made himself comfortable as his auntie's flat, even bagging himself a job at the Underworld factory. However, Bobby has since found himself caught up in a missing person case after his new love interest Lauren Bolton disappeared back in February and is now suspected to have been murdered.

At first, Bobby was equally as convinced as DS Lisa Swain that Roy Cropper had something to do with Lauren's sudden disappearance. However, after overhearing what happened with Roy in court, Bobby decided he needed to take action and went to the police to give a false witness statement about the night of Lauren's disappearance, insisting he had seen him in her flat when he arrived there - but it wasn't Roy.

After Bobby faced more questions about his change of statement, Carla was then later seen going off for a chat with DS Swain and when she returned home, she told Bobby she hadn't admitted he'd lied and instead they'd go along with the story as their main priority was Roy.

But while the dramatic storyline continues to unfold with Bobby included on-screen, Jack has taken a break and headed off to Rome. Sharing a selfie of himself in the Italian city on Tuesday (April 23), the new soap star said on Instagram: "Cleared off to Rome for the week."

He then shared: "First solo vacation and the locals couldn’t be more helpful. Maybe there’s something about the constant reminder of eternal damnation around every street corner that makes people kind. Just been to the Sistine chapel. Not quite as breathtaking as my first time seeing the Rovers Return but it’ll do. Off to the Holy Steps now. Here’s hoping they have a Holy Ramp."

Jack has since joked his way through his trip so far. In another selfie posted to his Instagram Story, he could be seen sporting a straw hat while sipping a coffee. "Going to the audience with his holiness @franciscus," he captioned the post. He later shared another picture of himself waiting for Pope Francis' appearance, tagging his location AS St Peter's Square, in the Vatican City, not Manchester, and said: "Awaiting the headline act."

Following his initial main Instagram post, fans were quick to wish Jack a happy holiday. @missl.2021 said: "Have a fantastic time." @nigel.a.marshall commented: "Have a great holiday." @julie_coggins replied: "Enjoy." @kling12349 added: "Have the best time."

It comes after Jack teased how Bobby may face 'consequences' if his statement to the police about Lauren's case gets found out. Asked if it could happen, he said: "I think yes, that is usually what happens in these situations and certainly DS Swain is not the sort of character that you want to get on the wrong side of, especially when she’s got a bee in her bonnet about something.

Asked where Carla, played by Alison King stands on what Bobby has done, Jack added: "The dynamic between Bobby and Carla has really grown and she’s really come to accept his flaws and faults and grown really fond of him as a family member, but unfortunately it is those same flaws and faults that start to get her embroiled in legal problems. This is real stuff – it’s not just Bobby sitting on the sofa and not pulling his weight, this could have tangible consequences for both of their lives."
