Coronation Street's Ed Bailey faces trouble over Norris Cole fraud

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Ed Bailey's fraudulent antics will catch up with him in new Coronation Street scenes.

As the ITV soap revisits the family man's gambling addiction, Ed receives a letter addressed to his property's late tenant Norris Cole. Its contents include a pre-authorised credit card, which he gladly pockets.

Ed then heads to the casino with the credit card, but in an upcoming episode, his spending of the bank's money comes to an abrupt halt.

When Ed tries to pay for his coffee, the card is declined, leading to some considerable panic.

To make matters even worse, his son Michael Bailey later opens another letter for Norris, informing him that his credit card has been frozen on the grounds of suspicious activity.

Is Ed's gambling problem about to be exposed?

This is all part of a major Christmas storyline which'll see Ed hitting rock bottom.

"Ed's gambling so far is something that's existed in backstory. We've seen him tempted a couple of times, but we thought there was a huge unexplored storyline there for us," executive producer Iain MacLeod previously teased.

"The addition of [his dad Sarge, played by Ram John Holder] was an effort to try and contextualise what's made Ed the way he is. Addictions come from somewhere normally, so we thought: 'What is it about the family's shared history and home environment that might have caused Ed to have this vulnerability in his personality?'"

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
