Coronation Street bosses have confirmed a new detective is about to appear on the cobbles as the mystery of missing teen Lauren Bolton continues.

Soap fans will likely recognise Christopher "Kit" Green, as he's played by former Hollyoaks star Jacob Roberts. Jacob played Damon Kinsella in Hollyoaks for six years.

While Kit will be brought in to help DS Swan find out what has happened to Lauren, it turns out he is the long-lost son of Bernie Winters.

As viewers will know, Bernie has been on a mission to track down her son Zodiac, who was adopted and had his name changed to Christopher not long after he was born.

Tonight's episode saw Bernie track down a man with the same name, but she was disappointed when he denied being the man she was looking for. But as a disappointed Bernie began to make her way home, the man took out a jade elephant toy, exactly like the one Bernie told Dev she had bought for her son.

On Wednesday, a drunken Bernie will bump into Kit in the street, and he'll arrest her for being drunk and disorderly. While still hiding his true identity from his biological mother, Kit will use his job to find out more about her.

Jacob said: “It’s absolutely amazing to be joining the cast of Coronation Street. When I walked on set for the first time it felt a bit overwhelming because the attention to detail is just incredible, it actually makes you feel that you are on a real street.

“My mum and dad are really chuffed too which is lovely. My mum has always watched Coronation Street, I’ve always kept up to date with it too, so it just feels surreal to be here. Meeting all of the cast and crew was great, I really do feel at home here.

“I’m looking forward to everyone meeting Kit but I do think he is going to be a very misunderstood character at first. He’s been really hurt throughout his life and although he has a good heart, he has some deep rooted resentment with his biological mum, Bernie, which will be really interesting to play out.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX
