Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd pays tribute to Weatherfield legends

The late Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn's faces decorate a pair of lift doors near the Coronation Street set, it's been revealed.

Jack P Shepherd, who played David Platt opposite their legendary characters Jack and Vera Duckworth for many years, showed off this touching memorial via Instagram over the weekend.

In a video – captioned "icons" – he and co-star Julia Goulding can be seen in the elevator's mirror waiting for the doors to close, and when they do, it creates an image of Jack and Vera kissing.

Tarmey and Dawn gave us one of soapland's greatest-ever couples in Jack and Vera, and while reflecting on her pal's tragic death back in 2013, the late actress said: "Bill was my best friend and I loved him dearly. I will never meet anybody so kind and generous. He had the heart of a lion and I miss him terribly.

"He was like an ox and overcame so many issues with his health that you felt he would just go on and on forever.

"I cried and cried for days. I'd sit there thinking about all the times we spent together, all the laughter we shared. The days on the Street. The charity work we did together. The holidays our two families shared."

In other news, Shepherd admitted last year that he'd "be silly" to leave his cosy Weatherfield job as David.

"If you like the people you work with and they make you laugh, you come away thinking, 'That was fun, let's do it again tomorrow'. It's only when you're unhappy at work that you leave, and I'm not," he noted.

"People want to go off and branch out into other things, and that's fine. However, I've always really got on with everyone I work with, and the show still gives me good stories so I'd be silly to leave!"

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
