The following story contains references to losing a child.

Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has opened up about the tragic loss of a child.

She bravely discussed her experiences during the latest episode of ITVbe's Drama Queens, which chronicles the lives of top soap stars away from the screen.

Viewers saw a confessional interview where Lucy spoke about having a miscarriage, before briefly pausing because she was starting to cry.

"In the first year that Ryan and me were together we fell pregnant and we were really, really excited," she recalled. "We booked a scan and... I feel like I'm going to get upset."

Lucy composed herself and then explained that she went with partner Ryan Ledson to their first scan, where they received heartbreaking news from their nurse.

"We went for the first scan and I didn't expect that anything would be wrong and she [the nurse] told us that there was no heartbeat and the baby had died," Lucy recalled.

The couple would later bring a child to term — as their son Sonny Jude was born in January 2023. Viewers saw the couple celebrating his birthday in the Drama Queens episode.

"I just feel like because we had experienced some harder times before we had Sonny and I think when I was pregnant with Sonny I was filled with so much anxiety," she explained.

"To kind of look back and think, 'Wow, what we've created,' it just feels even more special."

The actor is set to be involved in a major issue-based storyline in the months ahead as Bethany Platt's abuser Nathan Curtis returns to screens as part of the Lauren Bolton disappearance storyline.

Drama Queens airs on Wednesdays on ITVbe and ITVX.
