Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has teased a 'huge' upcoming storyline that will involve her character Bethany Platt - but it's not to do with the current Lauren Bolton disappearance/murder case. The actress reprised her role in the ITV soap just as the New Year arrived in Weatherfield.

Blackpool-born Lucy returned to the cobbles after nearly four years away and, as soon as Bethany stepped foot back into Weatherfield, the returnee caught the eye of former flame Daniel Osbourne. It wasn't long before they were finishing where they once left off - ruffling the feathers of his recent ex-fiancée Daisy Midgeley.

She also caused drama when, after discovering details of Daniel's complicated history with Daisy and Ryan Connor after being involved in a horrifying acid attack at the hands of Daisy's stalker Justin Rutherford, she realised that it's the perfect story to sell to gossip magazine Chit Chat amid her financial woes

Bethany later agreed with Lauren to do a story on her being groomed into her dad's far-right group - but when Bethany contacted some of those involved, she received some very curt responses and soon after, Lauren disappeared and hasn't been seen since the end of February. DS Lisa Swain is now leading a murder investigation.

When talking to Inside Soap magazine about starring in new reality series Drama Queens, Lucy revealed her character Bethany will be at the centre of a big upcoming storyline in Corrie.

"Bethany's involved in the storyline surrounding Lauren's disappearance, but there's another huge plot coming up for her that we haven't started filming. I'm really excited," she hinted. While not saying any more, former producer Iain MacLeod also previously teased what was to come for Bethany.

He told the Manchester Evening News back in October: "She will also find herself in the centre of this huge story that we've got next year. So she's coming back with this clear romantic purpose in the Daniel story but she'll fairly quickly find herself in the midst of this massive story that's going to span most of [2024]."

Meanwhile, Lucy is set to step away from Bethany to show viewers the 'real' her. The 28-year-old has opened up her home life to the cameras for the first time in the new ITVBe reality series Drama Queens. The new eight-episode reality series, focused around Manchester and the North West, follows the lives of a host of female actresses from across three of Britain’s biggest soap operas, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks.

Lucy is joined by her former co-stars Brooke Vincent and Ellie Leach as well as Emmerdale's Amy Walsh, Laura Norton and Roxy Shahidi and Hollyoaks' Jamelia, Jorgie Porter and Rita Simons as they open the doors to their real lives, showcasing their personalities, struggles, and triumphs.

She told Inside Soap: "I found it quite strange at first, because I'd never done anything like this before. I'm used to going to work and saying lines that are given to me! So being myself in front of the camera was quite different to what I'm used to. But I'm excited for people to see the person who plays Bethany rather than just the character," she added.

Discussing the reason she joined the show, the mum-of-one, who welcomed son Sonny Jude with boyfriend Ryan Ledson last year, shared that she "made a promise" to herself to get out of her "comfort zone", claiming it was a "quick 'yes'" when she was approached to take part. "I found it an interesting concept," she said. "People probably see us on TV and think we have glamorous lives. But actually it's quite chaotic, and I think people watching will find it relatable."
