Coronation Street's Max to face backlash from Gail after Griff incident

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Max Turner must face the consequences of his actions later this week as his recent behaviour sparks tensions at home.

Max has spent the past few weeks helping extremist gang leader Griff Reynolds, who's currently on the run after planting a bomb in the Speed Daal van at the Weatherfield Peace Market.

The teen switched his loyalties when he uncovered Griff's shocking intentions, tipping off his neighbours to avoid a tragedy at the market. Max's girlfriend Lauren Bolton also alerted the police.

Alya Nazir played the biggest role in avoiding disaster, bravely driving the Speed Daal van off to some waste ground so that the explosion didn't happen in a crowded area.

In Sunday's episode, Max is questioned at the police station over his recent involvement with Griff and the gang.

As there's nothing to link Max to the explosion and he was the one who raised the alarm, he's ultimately released without charge.

David Platt tries his best to help his son, hoping that this will be a major turning point for him.

However, David is shocked when Gail is far less forgiving and refuses to immediately support Max.

Gail is hesitant to welcome Max back into the family home after he aligned himself with Griff and made videos for him, but can David convince her to give Max another chance?

Corrie's producer Iain MacLeod recently confirmed that the show intends to redeem Max in the coming months.

MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media: "Max will, over the course of 2023, realise the error of his ways. A lot of what we're doing after that is about him being deprogrammed and un-brainwashed.

"There is a redemption on the horizon for him after what he's been through, but the after-effects – like with all stories – last for a very long time after that."

He added: "What's most interesting for me is seeing how this affects David, who has had a light touch parenting approach over the years. He has treated Max more like a friend than a son. Biologically, Max is not his son, which has had an input on that as well.

"David has to finally knuckle down and face the biggest parenting challenge he's had. Jack [P Shepherd, who plays David] is a consummate performer and there's absolutely brilliant stuff to come."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
