July's footway closures for Grimsby 's Corporation Road Bridge have been confirmed.

As usual, pedestrians will not be able to cross the bridge during the day on all Wednesdays in the month. There are also two planned Thursday closures, and work on one weekend to take advantage of low tide levels. The latest closure dates come after a recent planning application for extra steel repairs to the bridge.

The Grade II listed bridge has been closed to vehicular traffic since February 2023 and has had no reopening date since October. Its worse than expected condition resulted in an original reopening date of by Christmas 2023 being scrapped.

North East Lincolnshire Council has confirmed the following footpath closure dates this month as well as Wednesday, July 3:

  • Wednesday July 10

  • Thursday July 11

  • Wednesday July 17

  • Wednesday July 24

  • Thursday July 25

The footpath is closed between 10am and 4pm on each of those days. These closures take place when work is adjacent to public areas, for the safety of both the public and the contractor. Weekend working will take place on July 13-14, though this will not require a footpath closure.

On the works themselves, the council has stated: "Application of the primer and paint coatings has also been ongoing along with required preparation works and inspections. Control room works are in progress and all rotten timbers have now been replaced and corroded steels are due to be replaced. Insulation works are complete and roof replacement works will commence soon."

All mechanical preparation works to the bridge's underdeck on spans one to four are complete. Painting is also in progress for spans one to three. Span four operates the bridge's lifting mechanism, and a planning application was recently made to replace its timber decking with steel. A document for that also referenced possible plans for cycle lanes on the bridge.

The council, its delivery partner Equans and contractor Spencer Group once again thanked the public for their patience while works take place. North East Lincolnshire Council also reminded the public to follow the restrictions in place because of the works.

"As Corporation Road Bridge is a construction site, it is important that the public respect the access restrictions in place, which have been introduced for safety reasons. Members of the public are reminded to please stay outside of all encapsulated and other working areas for their own safety, as well as that of those working there."
