Yahoo News Corrie confirms Gary and Nicola's cheating story
The rumours were true – Coronation Street's Gary Windass will betray his girlfriend Sarah Platt with Pat Phelan's daughter Nicola Rubinstein.
These brand new photos from next week's episodes show the moment that a heart-to-heart between Gary and Nicola leads to more, as predicted in the papers recently.
When Gary arrives home following his latest stint doing dangerous security work in the Ukraine, his mum Anna spots that he's hiding some serious bruises.
Anna tries her best to get answers from Gary over what his new job really involves, but he stubbornly refuses to open up to her.
Gary then seeks an escape from his troubles by heading out on an all-night bender, but this only leads to more problems when Sarah (Tina O'Brien) wants answers over his behaviour.
Spotting how much Gary is struggling and knowing the truth behind his situation, Nicola invites him over to Number 11 and they bond over a bottle of wine.
The pair's honest conversation sees Gary open up over his time in the army, while Nicola also has some tales to tell about her own eventful youth.
Realising they have quite a lot in common, Gary and Nicola end up giving into temptation – and the fallout is bound to cause fireworks on the cobbles.
Mikey North, who plays Gary, revealed: "Nicola just happens to be there at the right time. She's the only person that Gary has told exactly what happened in the Ukraine and what he had to do, so that is probably one of the reasons that he feels an attachment to her.
"Gary does love Sarah – things are great between them and they are so good together – but I suppose in the heat of the moment, he isn't thinking clearly.
"This isn't the Gary that's been around before he went to the Ukraine. This is someone else and I think it's taken over his mind almost, he's gone a bit crazy. His judgement is clouded by drink, he's just had a row with Sarah and he's not thinking straight.
"When Gary goes home, he feels awful that he's confided in Nicola again and not Sarah. He goes back to Sarah's house and while he doesn't come clean about Nicola, he does about what's happened in the Ukraine, about how dangerous it is and the fact that he's not been letting on how bad it really is."
Asked whether he wants Sarah and Gary to stay together, Mikey replied: "Yeah, I do. They've been together for a year and a half now and it's been probably my most enjoyable time on the show. I think Tina's a great actress and I love working with her and Lucy Fallon together. I'm blessed to work with two of the best actresses on the show, so I can't complain at all.
"If it was down to me I'd have them stay together for as long as possible. Just picking up on what people have been saying, they seem to be really popular, so hopefully it's not the end for them and Gary doesn't risk his relationship over Nicola."
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, September 29 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
