Yahoo News Corrie star speaks out over new pregnancy plot
Coronation Street's Daniel Osbourne realises his life might be about to change forever next week, as he discovers that his new girlfriend Sinead Tinker is pregnant.
When Sinead realises that she's expecting a baby, she confides in her aunt Beth before facing some difficult questions from Daniel, who's already found her positive pregnancy test.
Here, Rob Mallard - who plays Daniel - offers some early hints on what this could mean for the new couple's future.
How does Daniel feel when he finds out that Sinead is pregnant?
"Daniel is really shocked at first, but then he sees it as a way to keep Sinead close. He doesn't intentionally mean to be calculating, but the first thing he thinks is: 'A baby, that means Sinead will be with me forever'."
What kind of dad would Daniel make?
"Daniel would be quite similar to Ken, in the fact that he would want to give his child the life he never had. Ken is pushing Daniel to go to Oxford and do the things he feels he never had a chance to do - and I think Daniel would be the same.
"Daniel has had such a lonely childhood, so I feel he would go completely the other way and spoil his child."
How would you like to see Daniel and Sinead's romance go from here?
"I think that Sinead has seen Daniel as a lifeboat and she has jumped straight from one relationship to another. Sinead's mellow attitude has rubbed off on Daniel, so it would be interesting to see if Daniel's fiery side will rub off on Sinead."
What is it about Sinead that Daniel has fallen for?
"Daniel sees Sinead as remarkably innocent. Particularly with Daniel's past, he has experienced hurt, pain and bad things in this world, so he wants to protect Sinead from all those things. He also likes that she is very creative - she makes things from nothing, whereas Daniel is more bookish."
Do you think they make a good couple?
"Yes I do, because I think Sinead calms Daniel down a bit and mellows him out."
How does Daniel feel about his family's negative reaction to their relationship?
"Daniel doesn't care, because he has been by himself for so long that he is so used to doing what he wants to do and not taking other people into consideration."
Daniel has yet another argument with Sinead's ex-boyfriend Chesney next week. What causes it?
"Chesney is selling Sinead's clothes for one pound, which angers Daniel. Sinead's brooch that her grandma gave her is sold, so Daniel gives Sinead a necklace which belonged to his mum."
Why has Daniel given it to her now?
"Daniel gives it to Sinead as it's clear that this is something that is important to him. It's like: 'I have given this to you and you know it's important to me, so you know I won't leave'."
Why is Daniel so angry with Chesney in general?
"Daniel feels that Sinead hasn't done anything that wrong. He sees Chesney for what he is - he doesn't think he can offer Sinead what she needs and he thinks they were mismatched.
"Daniel doesn't think that he took Sinead off Chesney, because in Sinead's head, it was over before they got together. So he is angry that Chesney is acting this way towards Sinead and being immature."
Is Daniel's temper something we're going to see more of?
"Yes! When teenagers storm off and have a temper, it's usually up to parents to rein them in, but Daniel has never had that. He has never had a parent telling him, 'This isn't the best way to sort out an issue,' because his mum left when he was young."
Have you settled in at Corrie now?
"Yes, I have been here five months now. I feel like I have been here for a while but at the same time I can't believe it has gone so quick. My favourite part is getting the scripts and seeing what is coming up next. Although I film six weeks ahead, I am just like a viewer in that I am always surprised to read what is coming up."
