Coronation Street's set was evacuated this afternoon (July 21) due to a false fire alarm.

It's believed that cast and crew were filming scenes when the alarm sounded at around 1.30pm, forcing them to abandon work and gather in the car park outside.

Some inaccurate early reports suggested there'd been an emergency on the cobbles, but a representative for the show swiftly denied the claims.

A Corrie spokesperson assured Digital Spy that the incident was a false alarm and everybody is fine.

The show's team did briefly stop work, but everyone was back inside the building within three minutes.

Coronation Street's set is based in MediaCityUK in Trafford, which has been the show's home since 2014.

The set is currently being extended to help pave the way for the show's upcoming increase to six episodes per week in the autumn.

This will open up new filming spaces which can be used in the show to help facilitate the expansion in production.

Up until the end of 2013, Corrie was filmed at Granada Studios in Manchester city centre, which was its base right from the soap's launch in 1960.
