Since joining the ITV soap all the way back in 2000, Samia/Maria has been involved in multiple moments: from giving birth to a stillborn baby, having her partner Liam cheat on her with her sister-in-law Carla (before he got murdered) and being locked up for a sham marriage for the visa.

Did you know that another of her storylines, involving the evil Frank Foster, was originally written for Michelle Connor, but Kym Marsh's early maternity leave forced some last-minute reworking? It's just one of many soap stories that were at first intended for other characters.

As for her upcoming storylines, soap bosses have hinted that Maria is due to have a new romance with Ali Neeson, but she's currently navigating the world of online dating – and it's not going well.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
