Council EVICTS nightmare tenant in quest to 'reclaim' Stoke-on-Trent estate
A nightmare tenant has been kicked out of their council house. Stoke-on-Trent City Council evicted the tenant after securing a court order under the Housing Act 1996.
It followed complaints about the property - on Metcalfe Road, in Stanfield - housing stolen goods and sparking anti-social behaviour since August. Neighbours recorded CCTV footage and monitored noise levels to help to secure the eviction.
Councillor David Williams, cabinet member for community safety and resilience, said: “Living in a council property is a privilege and it will never be acceptable for a tenant to make the lives of those who live nearby a misery. Everybody should be able to feel safe in their local area and we are committed to ensuring that we tackle any type of anti-social behaviour swiftly and successfully with our partners.
“Where there is evidence we will continue to take action like this and I would like to thank those residents who provided CCTV footage and recorded noise levels for this case. We are on a mission to reclaim our streets and build a safer, stronger and more confident city for everyone. An ever-closer partnership approach which brings together the council, partner agencies and our local communities shows that together we can tackle the root causes of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.”
Staffordshire Police provided 'intelligence' to Stoke-on-Trent County Court ahead of the eviction.
Sergeant Chris Gifford said: "Tackling the main issues that are affecting local people and businesses is something we’re keen to continue doing across the city. By working collectively with the council and other local partners, we can continue to build intelligence, deal with the problems that matter and carry on making Stoke-on-Trent a better place to live, work and visit.”
