Council gives travellers 24 hours to get off North Staffordshire field - or else

A council has handed travellers 24 hours to get off a North Staffordshire beauty spot. The travellers set up camp on Crackley Fields, in Crackley, on Bank Holiday Monday.

Staffordshire Police and Newcastle Borough Council have attended the site.

Councillor David Hutchison, cabinet member for sustainable environment, said: “We have acted immediately to serve the travellers with an initial notice to leave the site and if they do not move within 24 hours, we will take further action in line with the prescribed legal procedure we have to follow.”

Staffordshire Police are supporting the council response.

A police spokesman said: "We were made aware of the presence of a number of travellers on fields, off Crackley Bank, at 1.50pm yesterday. The council is aware and our officers have been in attendance to provide support."
