Coventry City man set to join 'ambitious' League One club amid medical and personal terms

Coventry City striker Matty Godden is set to join Charlton Athletic after the two clubs are understood to have agreed a fee for the player.

The Sun reported at the weekend that the Sky Blues were ready to sell the front man to the “highest bidder,” with newly promoted Oxford United also said to be interested in the former Peterborough United's services.

But the 32-year-old was at League One Charlton on Monday having a medical and agreeing personal terms ahead of confirmation of a move to The Valley.

The Sun's transfer specialist Alan Nixon reports today: "Ambitious Charlton are set to win the race for Coventry striker Matty Godden.

"The Addicks faced competition form Championship new boys Oxford but Godden is ready to choose the drop League One.

"Boss Nathan Jones wants a new forward in as Alfie May departs and Godden has a good track record down the years."

May, 30, is reported to be set to sign for Birmingham City today after bagging 27 goals in all competitions for Athletic last season.

Godden, meanwhile, slipped down the pecking order with the Sky Blues last term after last summer signings Ellis Simms and Haji Wright hit form, both ending the season on 19 goals apiece. With increasingly limited game time, Godden is understood to have become frustrated and is now keen for more guaranteed first team action.
