A Coventry road blighted by problem parking could get double yellow lines next month. Plans for North View in Walsgrave business park are set to be agreed by the council next week.

It comes after businesses raised concerns about all-day parking and large vehicles not being able to get to premises. But the restrictions will cover less of the road under the latest plans.

The change comes after a nearby school warned of the impact on pick-ups and drop-offs, before a meeting to sign off the original scheme in April. Seva School said people taking kids to and from school rely on the road's on-street parking due to building work.

Call for red lines on Coventry road to tackle parking problems

Construction activities at the school means there is no parking on its grounds and this is likely to continue until September 2025, they added. The school admitted the works have led to more contractors parking on North View and off-street parking for them is needed.

But they also said the building work is being progressed by the government and are outside the school's direct control. In April the school got permission to keep its temporary classrooms on a car park while a building is refurbished.

The school's expansion is planned to be finished by autumn 2025 and will mean it has room for 1,000 pupils. The council report said a meeting to discuss the school and businesses' concerns was held on the road last month.

All parties are "committed to working positively together to seek a viable long-term solution," it added. The new plans recommended by officers will leave around 185 metres of the road free from double yellow lines.

This stretch will instead have a single yellow line allowing parking only at school drop-off and pick-up times - meaning people will not be allowed to stay there overnight or all day. But the report admitted that while the measures could greatly improve parking on the road, "ongoing dialogue" will be needed with a range of groups.

The council will also not be bringing in double red lines on North View and Eden Road as asked for by six objectors to the plans. The objectors said parents picking kids up from the school are parking on double yellow lines on Eden Road, where the school is based, and blocking access to Denso.

But the council said it did not recommend that double red lines are installed as the roads are not strategically important and the issue can be tackled by preventing parking rather than stopping. Senior councillor Patricia Hetherton will make the final decision on approving the new restrictions at a meeting next week, 17 June.

If agreed the double yellow lines would be installed in mid July and a school/bus coach bay would also be remarked as a priority. The "revised proposals" would also be advertised and could be in place by September.
