Coventry nursery plans expansion as places 'urgently needed'
A Coventry nursery plans to expand as it says there is an "urgent need" for more childcare spaces. It comes amid the rollout of 15 hours of free childcare for parents of two-year-olds.
Jigsaw Day Nursery in Earlsdon wants to add 30 new places, a rise of 60 per cent on current numbers. It is seeking to build a new classroom at its site on Moor Street according to plans lodged with the council yesterday (April 30).
A bid to boost the number of spaces at the nursery was made two years ago but withdrawn. A document with the plans referred to the change in policy which means more parents can get free childcare as of April 2024.

"Eligible parents of children who have turned two years old can now access 15 hours of government funding, which means that there is now an urgent need for more childcare spaces to be available," it said. "The applicant would like to now expand the business, physically and by the number of children, in order to provide this enhanced offer."
The move would mean that the nursery's places are increased to 80, although it is expected that up to 65 would be on the site at any one time, the plans say. The building would be single storey and have space for 20 children, said the report by Simple Planning Solutions.
