The UK is set to embrace hot temperatures of 26C this weekend, but two parts of England will miss out on the scorching heat. The country is set for a sizzling heat blast from Iberia, but not everywhere will feel the warmth.

The Mirror reports that the far north and northwest of England are expected to experience "showers and more unsettled conditions are likely" as we approach the weekend, while the rest of the UK can expect highs of 26C, surpassing the hottest day of the year so far, which was 24C.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, Tony Wisson, warned: "Many places will start fine and warm on Sunday, though it is likely to become cloudier from the west or southwest during the day. This will be accompanied by scattered showers, which could be heavy with thunder.

He added: "On Monday we're likely to see more widespread and longer-lived spells of rain, some of which will be heavy and thundery. This will also lead to a much cooler feel to the day."

The Met Office predicted that yesterday would be "another fine and dry day for all of us with plenty of warm sunshine and light winds." And the coming days would get even better. The forecaster added: "UV levels are high, so take care when in the sun."

The outlook for tonight is also promising: "High pressure continues to dominate, bringing a dry day with plenty of sunny spells, perhaps with the odd shower through the afternoon. Feeling very warm in the sunshine."

Today could even see temperatures reach the mid-20s Celsius. The Midlands has also been forecasted for a hot afternoon, with the mercury touching 24C before an evening cool down. Rain is unlikely to fall anywhere in the UK today, apart from one or two light showers. Meanwhile, lows are expected to fall to 9C in northern Scotland and 15C in the Midlands.

As for the weekend, the forecast reads: "Remaining settled to start the weekend with warm sunny spells and the odd shower. Chance of heavy, thundery showers on Sunday before turning widely unsettled on Monday and feeling cooler."

Its latest forecast said: "The weather will continue to warm up over the next few days, with bright and sunny conditions for many. High pressure is set to dominate, with temperatures continuing to rise. Highs of 25C are possible on Friday and could reach up to 26C in the south on Saturday and Sunday.

"Although the majority of the UK will enjoy this fine weather, showers and more unsettled conditions are likely in the far north and northwest. The warm weather brings an increase in UV levels, and over the next few days, they are expected to reach moderate to high levels across the UK. It is important that, if you are in an area that is particularly sunny over the next few days, you take steps to ensure that you and your family are protected from these increased UV levels."

For Coventry, today will be a fine warm day with plenty of sunshine, then dry overnight with prolonged clear spells. With light winds, there will be some mist and fog patches forming in places.

Here is the Met Office outlook for Coventry over the next few days:

Saturday:

A warm sunny day for many, though some patchy coastal mist is possible in places. A few heavy afternoon showers or thunderstorms developing across northern England and southern Scotland.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

A warm and humid day on Sunday, with an increasing risk of thunderstorms. Turning cooler through Monday and Tuesday, with showers and longer spells of rain. Winds increasing too.
