How to create glitter clothes, the new sparkly trend taking over social media

When it comes to festival season, you can expect to see a lot of sparkly clothing.

But this year, you may want to look just a little bit closer at those glittery trousers and sequin crop tops. Why? Because they could be made entirely of glitter.

British brand Go Get Glitter have taken our love of the sparkly stuff a step further and covered entire limbs to create very eye-catching (and realistic) "glitter clothes".

Founded in 2015, their Instagram now boasts over 279k followers, with fans so in awe of their innovative full-body glitter creations that their posts often go viral.

With festival season just around the corner, we caught up with co-founders Holly Pollack and Sophia Levy, to find out how they came up with the idea of glitter clothing and how to create our very own sparkly style.

How did you first create glitter clothes?

Glitter clothes came about in 2016. We were doing a Snapchat takeover for a well-known fashion brand and wanted to create something never seen before. So we started painting the body in glitter and it came to us: why not recreate their clothes using only our glitter?

We created Go Get Glitter with the focus of encouraging people to express themselves. There are hundreds of beauty brands selling makeup for everyday use, but there are not many products on the market that make you stand out. By simply adding a bit of Go Get Glitter to your makeup look (or, wearing it as clothing) you're adding personality, and showing people who you really are.

What types of clothing can you create out of glitter?

The possibilities are endless. There is nothing you can’t create with glitter! We’ve done bras, bums, bralettes, leggings, jeans, long sleeved, short levees... the list goes on.

How realistic are your sparkly clothing creations?

Most of the tops and leggings we create are incredibly realistic. Our Glitter Fix Glue provides full coverage, making it look just like fabric.

We even have people messaging us asking where they can buy our ‘Mermaid Leggings’ and ‘Unicorn Jewel Top’... no one can believe it’s created entirely from jewels and glitter.

Can I still wear glitter clothes at festivals that have banned glitter?

We sell biodegradable glitter in both silver and gold, and these can also be used to create glitter clothes. If you went for this option, you can definitely rock this look at festivals in the summer (some festivals are banning only non-biodegradable glitter, not glitter in general).

Plus, gems aren’t banned from festivals, as these peel off all in one and can be put in the bin (not down the drain).

What has been the response on social media to the top you created today?

People have gone mad over it! This style is by far everyone’s favourite, I think because it looks so real.

Our glitter clothes, such as this one, often go viral purely because people are amazed by it, they can't work it out, so it sparks a lot of conversation.

What do people need if they want to create their own glitter top?

You can purchase all the products to create glitter clothes via our website.

Surprisingly a small bit of glitter goes a long way, and one chunky glitter set (for example, Mermaid Vibes) is enough to create a crop top; our Glitter Fix Glue is an absolute best seller and will ensure the glitter stays in place the whole day.
