Cristiano Ronaldo in TEARS after Portugal penalty miss as Jan Oblak denies superstar with stunning extra-time save

Cristiano Ronaldo was reduced to TEARS as he missed from the penalty spot for Portugal.

It has been a largely frustrating night in front of goal for the superstar with numerous free-kicks flying off target and other shots failing to test Jan Oblak. But just before the end of the first half of extra time the former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward - now plying his trade in Saudi - had his biggest chance of the tournament yet from 12-yards after Diogo Jota was fouled in the box.

However, Oblak dived the correct way to push his effort onto the post and wide with the 39-year-old left visibly distraught with the tie remaining goalless at that stage. The referee then blew the whistle for the break in the additional 30 minutes with TV pictures showing the Portugal team all receiving instructions with Ronaldo spotted in tears and being consoled by his troops.
