Crowds gathered at Stonehenge to watch the sunrise on Friday, June 21, the morning after the summer solstice.

This footage by Jiri Jiskra shows people arriving at Stonehenge on Thursday evening. Footage captured on Friday morning shows crowds cheering as the sun rises.

About 15,000 people gathered at Stonehenge to watch the sunrise, according to the BBC.

According to Royal Museums Greenwich, “while most people consider the summer solstice to be a day, it is in reality an exact moment in time … when whichever hemisphere you’re in is most tilted towards the sun.”
