‘The Crown’ Makes Golden Globes History On Good Nominations Day For The Brits

The Crown made Golden Globes history this morning on a good day for stars from across the pond.

Netflix’s royal saga became the first show to have been nominated for Best Television Series – Drama for each of its seasons, with the latest nom seeing it come up against the likes of 1923, The Last of Us and Succession when the ceremony takes place on January 7.

With the final set of episodes of The Crown about to drop, the sometimes controversial but always popular Netflix smash is having a bit of a moment, and EP Suzanne Mackie described the Globes record as an “absolute honor and a privilege.”

The Crown actors had a strong nominations showing with Imelda Staunton and Dominic West, who play the Queen and Prince Charles respectively, being recognized.

This led a strong nominations day for Brits, with nearly half of the TV drama performance nominations going to men and women from across the pond.

Other nominees included Helen Mirren for 1923, Bella Ramsey for The Last of Us and, unsurprisingly, Succession’s Brian Cox. In a Crown and Succession year, it always felt like the Brits were going to come good. Other prominent British actors to be handed nominations included Rachel Weisz for Amazon Prime Video’s Dead Ringers and David Oyelowo in Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

British stars were less successful in the movie categories but Carey Mulligan picked one up for Best Performance By a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, for her performance opposite Bradley Cooper in Maestro. In the male equivalent, the luck of the Irish held strong with nominations for Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers).
