The Crown's producers believe they have "delicately" handled the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in scenes set to air in the Netflix drama's sixth and final series.
Season five's ending introduced viewers to the 1990s, ready for the next instalment of royal events to be recreated in The Crown season six.
One of the most notable events to happen to the royal family in the '90s was the tragic death of Diana, who passed away aged 36 in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.
Discussing the upcoming series at this week's Edinburgh TV festival, The Crown's executive producers Andy Harries and Suzanne Mackie shared how they worked "sensitively" with actress Elizabeth Debicki (who plays Diana in the fifth and sixth series) to portray the late royal's untimely passing.

"The show might be big and noisy, but we're not," said Mackie. "We're thoughtful people and we're sensitive people.
"There were very careful, long conversations about how we were going to do it," she added. "The audience will judge it in the end, but I think it's been delicately, thoughtfully recreated."
Mackie said that Debicki, who she called an "extraordinary" actress, "loved Diana" and added that she was "thoughtful and considerate" when approaching the scenes in question.
"There's a huge amount of respect from us all, I hope that’s evident," she concluded.

Producer Andy Harries went on to share how a more recent royal passing has also had an effect on the final season of the hit Netflix show.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 last year, around the same time production was underway on the sixth series. Filming subsequently stopped in the immediate aftermath of her death.
"The passing of Her Majesty impacted on us all," he said. "It didn't change [the story] fundamentally, but it did change it in a sense.
Harries explained that the final ever episode was a "love letter" to the Queen from show creator Peter Morgan, who has also directed the series finale.
"When you see it, I think you will know what I mean," he said. "It's a very powerful film and a very respectful episode."
Imelda Staunton will reprise her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the sixth series, alongside Jonathan Pryce (Prince Philip), Lesley Manville (Princess Margaret) and Dominic West who plays Charles, Prince of Wales (now King Charles III).
Netflix confirmed in May that The Crown season six will air in autumn 2023, but has yet to share an official release date.
The Crown season 6 will premiere in autumn 2023, seasons 1-5 are streaming on Netflix. Seasons 1-5 are also available on DVD and Blu-ray.
