Croydon murder charge brought over Surrey Street stabbing as accused is named

A man has been charged with the murder of a man in Croydon after the victim was stabbed to death in a small road off Surrey Street. Rijkaard Siafa died on April 12 after being stabbed at Fellmongers Yard in Croydon.

Police were dispatched to the area at 6pm to reports of a man being stabbed. A number of members of the public attempted to provide first aid, before police, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance arrived at the scene. Sadly Rijkaard died at the scene.

David Walcott, 34, from Norbury, was arrested in the early hours of Friday, April 19 after an investigation by the police. He was charged with murder on Saturday, April 20.

Superintendent Mitch Carr, who leads community policing in Croydon, said last week: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the family and friends of Rijkaard who has lost his life in tragic circumstances.

"The local teams in Croydon will be working to ensure a visible police presence across the town centre to offer reassurance to the community. Please do speak to officers about any concerns you may have. I would also like to pass on my thanks to the community for their assistance and cooperation to officers who responded to this extremely challenging incident."
