The Conservatives held the Croydon South seat with 19,757 votes and a majority of 2,313 - a significant drop on the majority at the previous election but beating the polling forecast which predicted a chance of a Labour win. The total number of votes in the constituency was 49,943, with a 66 per cent turnout at the 2024 General Election.

The constituency was created in 1974 and since then has always been represented by the Conservatives. It covers the Croydon Council wards of Coulsdon Town, Kenley, Old Coulsdon, Park Hill and Whitgift, Purley and Woodcote, Purley Oaks and Riddlesdown, Sanderstead and South Croydon.

Chris Philp became the MP for the area in 2015. In 2019 he retained the seat with a 12,339 majority with 30,985 votes to the 18,646 votes of the Labour candidate coming in second place.
