What Crysencio Summerville said on Leeds United's epic Middlesbrough win and promotion battle

Crysencio Summerville has urged his Leeds United teammates to keep going in a "very intense" promotion battle. The Dutch winger, recently crowned the Championship's player of the year, starred in the Whites' thrilling 4-3 victory at Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old scored either side of half-time at the Riverside Stadium to help United halt a three-match winless run. The Dutchman calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Georginio Rutter had been upended. His spot kick cancelled out Isaiah Jones' seventh minute opener.

Summerville bagged his 20th goal across all competitions just after the hour mark, curling an unstoppable right foot shot past Seny Dieng to put the Whites 4-2 up. He nearly bagged a hat-trick but guided his effort wide from an acute angle before Emmanuel Latte Lath pulled another one back for Boro late on.

Summerville, who also set up Wilfried Gnonto for the Whites' third goal, told Sky Sports: "I'm very happy with the two goals to help the team. It's a very important three points. The fight is not over yet and we keep going.

"We knew it was going to be difficult. I tried to help my team and today was my lucky day."

Victory ensured United leapfrogged Ipswich Town into second spot. The Whites can tighten their grip on the automatic promotion place by beating Queens Park Rangers on Friday evening.

Man of the match Summerville said: "It (promotion race) is very intense. We enjoy every moment. We are competing with the top teams and we have to keep going."

Captain Ethan Ampadu echoed Summerville's sentiments, saying: "There are still two massive games to go. We don't really want to look at the table until after May 4. We know there is still a lot of hard work ahead of us. We are happy with the result and now it is full focus on Friday."
