Cults Academy drops out of top 10 as Scotland's school rankings revealed

Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire's school rankings have been revealed in The Times' prestigious school league table for 2024, with one school dropping out of the top 10 and another finishing rock bottom.

Cults Academy slid down to 16th in the table having been among the top 10 across Scotland last year, with schools in Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire topping the charts.

Two other north-east schools were among those in the top 25, with Aberdeen Grammar School occupying 17th spot and Westhill Academy ending up 25th in the table.

For one Aberdeenshire school however, the table makes for tough reading with Peterhead Academy coming 326th at the very bottom of the rankings.

North-east MSP Liam Kerr, the Scottish Conservative education spokesman, shared his praise for Jordanhill, who finished top of the table for 2024 in the prestigious rankings.

Speaking on the Glasgow school, he said: "Most people realised years ago that there is much we can learn from Jordanhill’s successful model.

"The education secretary’s warm words are welcome but leave no time to waste. Despite the best efforts of our hardworking teachers, staff, education professionals and parents and pupils themselves, pupils across Scotland often experience a poorer standard of education.

"Successive SNP cabinet secretaries have dithered and tinkered around the edges of education reform, rather than proactively replicating best practice."
